French Brittany Spaniels from Pheasant Country

Plum Creek Kennels
BREEDING GUN DOGS FOR THE FOOT HUNTER!

Hunting is a way of life for a Plum Creek French Brittany. We own and operate a wild pheasant hunting lodge in South Dakota,  Big Spur Lodge www.bigspur.com so the bar of expectation for the performance of all of our Brittanys in the field is necessarily quite high.   We researched and selected only the best to build our foundation blood lines.  And because we are serious, committed French brittany breeders, we have imported  the best French brittany blood lines in Europe to our kennels. We breed selectively and ONLY with hip certified French brittany parents. Please enter the site to explore all the info inside and here's wishing you many staunch points! Bill and Kathy

PLUM CREEK KENNELS

ORVIS Endorsed Breeder of French Brittanys!

Tatoo, tri-color French Brittany
Tatoo

Our ORVIS Endorsed French brittanys are outstanding field dogs and excellent companion dogs, making them the perfect dog for field and home.

French brittanys are quick and fiercely intelligent, a combination of sweet disposition and reckless courage. Our ORVIS Endorsed French Brittanys are well known internationally for their outstanding ability in the field.

At Plum Creek we hunt and breed the French Brittany - internationally known as the Epagneul Breton - a close working bird dog, calm yet energetic, with a fantastic nose and uncanny bird sense. We have owned, professionally hunted and bred French brittanys for nearly two decades and Plum Creek Kennels is an ORVIS Endorsed Breeding and Training kennel. We are proud to have been selected as the only French Brittany breeder in the USA for the ORVIS Endorsed Hunting Dog Program (click here for more details)!

Our French Brittanys are an integral part of the successful operation of our wild pheasant hunting at our professional, full service hunting lodge in South Dakota Big Spur Lodge. See the links to our training and our hunting lodge below.

CONTACT US!

The  French brittany is affectionate and loyal, quarters instinctively and continually checks back with you while remaining within gun range. He hunts for you, you don't have to hunt for him! A french brittany will put in a whole day's hunt, no matter the weather or cover, his energy seemingly bottomless, yet ease calmly right into the home without disrupting the household. With the french brittany spaniel's compact stature, he is light and quick on his feet, which perhaps is what gives him such endurance. French brittanys are used in all parts of the country, on all types of upland birds from pheasant and quail to grouse, in cover that varies from non-existent to dense.

The French brittany's hunting instinct and intelligence are the result of more than a century of meticulous breeding practices, practices which we are committed to continuing in our own french brittanys. We have owned French brittanys since 1991 and been importing dogs from Europe since 1993. We have been traveling to France for many years, building personal relationships with trainers, breeders and field trialers in many European countries, and we have therefore had the very unique opportunity to have brought in blood lines from the best kennels in France, the country of origin of the breed. We are committed to the traditions of the breed in France, which are inclusive of both their conformation and working style.

The French brittany should conform to the international standard, otherwise known as the "FCI standard" for the brittany spaniel. Shorter than most of their American cousins, the French brittany stands from 18-20 inches tall, and weight averages 28-40 pounds. French brittanys have dark noses and dark eyes and can be black/white, liver/white, orange/white, tri-color and roan of any of those colors.

We frequently receive testimonials and pictures back from the families of our pups. Link to the testimonials page to see just a few.
